Under Eye Cirlcles

While dark circles under your eyes aren’t necessarily a sign of exhaustion or serious illness, they can make you feel old, tired, and even unhealthy.

Dark circles—along with droopy eyelids—affect both women and men, often starting in young adulthood. It is not unusual to develop this discoloration even if you get plenty of sleep each night. Why? Because fatigue isn’t the only reason for under-eye circles. What appears to be under-eye circles are sometimes just shadows cast by puffy eyelids or the hollow under your eyes. Both of these things can develop as part of the normal aging process.

As an oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Mary's specializes in eyes and under-eye circle correction is one of her signature procedures.

Dr. Mary was named Chicago Magazine's Beauty Guru for correcting under eye circles

What causes dark circles?

Here are some of the most common causes of under-eye circles:

•  Heredity—dark circles and volume loss can run in your family.

•  Pigmentation irregularities.

•  Thinning skin and loss of fat and collagen—a common result of aging that can make the reddish-blue blood vessels under your eyes more apparent.

Treating Under-Cycle Circles

Dr. Mary specializes in treating eyes as an oculoplastic surgeon and master injector. There are two different approaches she uses to correct your under-eye circles. All under eye procedures require a consultation with Dr. Mary to determine which method is best for you based on your individual needs and expectations.

Hyaluronic Gel Fillers - These fillers can correct hollowness under the eye due to the natural loss of fat in the face. For most people, restoring the appearance of fat drastically changes the appearance of dark circles.
Nano Fat Transfer -  For patients looking for a longer lasting result or for those patients who might require significant amounts of filler a fat transfer might be the option for you. Dr. Mary is able to hand harvest your fat in a minimally invasive procedure and from there we are able to process that fat to act as fillers and even down to the stem cell level for natural rejuvenation. While fillers are a quick fix this would be a longer lasting and natural solution to under eye volume deficiency.
