What is it?

​

Dysport® is the latest cosmetic injectable approved by the FDA to treat facial wrinkles, and is derived from the same substance as Botox®, but in a slightly different formulation. Like Botox®, Dysport® works by treating specific, wrinkle-causing facial muscles in order to eliminate or improve the dynamic wrinkles. Dysport® received FDA approval in the United States in April 2009 for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults under 65 years of age.

How Dysport® Works

​

The contractions and movements of the facial muscles are controlled by signals from the brain. Dysport simply prevents the muscle from allowing responses to these messages. As a result, the muscle relaxes and the overlying skin remains unwrinkled and smooth.

Who Can Receive Dysport®

If you’re under 65 and seeking treatment to improve the look of wrinkles between your eyebrows, Dysport® may be for you. But before you begin, read below to help you make the safest, most informed decision. Dysport may not be for you if you:

• Are allergic to Dysport or any of the ingredients in Dysport.

• Are allergic to cow’s milk protein

• Had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product, such as Myobloc® (rimabotulinumtoxinB), Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) or Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA)

• Have a skin infection at the planned injection site

• You have had surgical changes to your face

• You have very weak muscles in the treatment area

• Your face looks very different from side to side

• The injection site is inflamed

• You have droopy eyelids or sagging eyelid folds

• You have deep facial scars

• You have thick, oily skin

• Your wrinkles can’t be smoothed by spreading them apart

What to Expect

​

With a very fine needle, Dysport® is injected into the specific muscle that is contracting and causing the lines and wrinkles on the face. Treatment is effective, safe and takes approximately 10 minutes. The pain is a minimal “pin prick” and no anesthetic is required. Immediately following treatment, you may resume regular activities. The effects usually last 3 to 4 months, and fade away gradually. Following several treatments, the results may last 4 to 8 months or longer. Typically, the effect of Dysport is visible within 3 days. Maximum benefits are reached between 7 to 14 days. Once the muscle becomes dormant and the skin softens, you will have a more relaxed and youthful appearance. Dysport® is often used in conjunction with other procedures performed at PritiSkin™.

Dysport® Side Effects and Risks

​

Side effects of Dysport® , if any, are usually mild and temporary. Botulinum toxins contain proteins, which in some circumstances may be naturally safeguarded against by the body’s ability to produce antibodies. If antibodies are formed, the therapy will generate a lesser response. Temporary bruising is sometimes experienced, though this symptom resolves itself within 2 to 3 days. In rare cases, there can be a slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression. If this should happen, notify us so we may begin appropriate therapy.Dysport® injections cannot be interchanged with other botulinum toxins such as Botox® Cosmetic if used within the last four months.Dysport® , along with any other botulinum toxin, should only be administered by skilled injectors.
