Medical Director

Dr. Mary Szatkowski-Prtikin is a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon and ophthalmologist with more than 25 years of experience helping patients see better and live better lives. She has a world-class education and loves treating and getting to know her patients at her practice in downtown Chicago.

Dr. Mary stands out from her colleagues for many reasons, but above all, she tries to experience most procedures before performing them on patients. She wants to understand the procedures from the patient’s perspective. Because of that, she’s able to give advice, suggestions and connect with patients on a level other providers cannot. Her patients love her because she’s real with them, is extremely talented and gets incredible results. Simply put, she is relatable to her patients.

When new patients come in for skin or eye care, Dr. Mary sits down with them to discuss what they want out of her services. After she hears all they have to say, she works with them to create care and treatment plans to help them achieve those goals.

Her oculoplastic services include both medical and cosmetic procedures such as eyelid abnormalities, blepharoplasties, and ptosis repairs. The non-surgical aesthetic component of the practice offers procedures to cover all cosmetic needs.

Dr. Mary was the first woman ever accepted to the #1 Ophthalmology training program in the United States – Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She was one of six people trained in her year there and describes her clinical training as “completely life-changing”. While there, she had the unique opportunity to train with the nation’s finest ophthalmologists and oculoplastic surgeons. She brings that world-class training back to her patients in Chicago and to her students at Rush Medical School, where she is an instructor.

Outside of work, Dr. Mary loves spending her free time with her husband and daughter. She enjoys the art of cooking and spending time with her family making meals and eating together every day. Between medical school and her residency, she trained with Julia Childs in France.
